Age 92, Lawton - Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Bob Yowell, officiating. Mr. Smith died Tuesday in Lawton. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith was born March 9, 1916 in Clinton, Texas to Joseph Dennis and Sarah Lou Smith. He grew up in various places and was a graduate of Waurika High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He began working for Frito Lay in 1952 and retired in 1976. He married Allene Vanbebber on November 20, 1936 in Lawton. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1996. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by a son, Van Smith, Lawton; a grandson and his wife, Kelley and Becky Smith, Lone Grove, Oklahoma; two granddaughters and their spouses, Dee Dee and Mark Biber, Lone Grove, Oklahoma, and Mendy and Tony Johnston, Gene Autry, Oklahoma seven great grandchildren; a brother, Leon Smith, Oklahoma City; a sister, Bessie Schmidt, Norfolk, Virginia. His parents, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert E. Greiner School for the Handicapped, 10 SE 'B' Avenue, Lawton, Oklahoma 73501.
