Miss Smithwick is a Real, Live Detective.

New Albany. -Special Correspondence.- Miss Eva Smithwick, of this city, the youngest and one of the most clever of the women secret service operatives in the employ of the government, who has been visiting her home here, has returned to Chicago, whence she will go to Washington, D. C. On her arrival here a week ago she had just returned from Mexico, where she had been in quest of evidence for the postal authorities.

Miss Southwick is 22 years of age, and has been engaged in detective work for the past two years. Her most intimate friends did not know that she was employ of the secret service. It was known to her friends that she spent a great deal of her time from home and that she traveled a great deal.

Miss Smithwick is one of the prettiest young women in Albany, and is a clever conversationalist. Her work in the government service has been confined to the investigation of postal frauds, and she bore a prominent part in the Cuban investigation. Mrs. Cora Smithwick, mother of Miss Smithwick, has admitted that for the past two years her daughter had been engaged in secret service work.

Mrs Eva A. Friedenheimer, 81, died in the hospital at the Soldiers home at 8:35 a.m. Monday. She was a patient there two weeks.

Born in New Albany, she was the widow of Frederick Friedenheimer, a veteran of the Spanish-American war, and entered the home from New Albany 15 years ago.

Surviving is a brother, James O. Smithwick of Helena, Mont. The body was sent to New Albany. (Note- James O. died in Sept 1961)
