WILLIAM J. SMITH, son of the late William J. Smith, Sr. and Sally B. Smith, was born in Brook Vale, Virginia on February 8, 1922. He departed this life on May 12, 2005.
William, also known as "Junior" by his family and "Smitty" by his friends, was very friendly and well liked by his family and neighbors.
William moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a child with his family and was educated in the Philadelphia School System.
William accepted Christ at an early age and was a long time member of the Pinn Memorial Baptist Church.
He joined the United States Navy during World War II and was an Officers cook. He received an honorable discharge.
William later studied criminal justice and received a certificate from the Institute of Criminology.
He married Bernice Driskell Smith in 1947.
William was employed and retired from the National Railroad (Amtrak).
He leaves to mourn: two brothers, Walter Smith and Jesse Smith; one sister, Catherine (Smith) Perry; his three close cousins, Charles White, Eleanor N. Gill and Marie McGlown; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
