Dorothy Anna Smith, 73, Altoona Center for Nursing Care, formerly of Wolf Court, Altoona, died Saturday evening at the center after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Edward T. and Marie M. (Trexler) Smith.
Surviving are eight siblings: Rita M. Miedl of Greensboro, Md., Ruth M. Novack of Altoona, George E. Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Clayton, N.C., Raymond R. Smith and wife, Barbara, of Denton, Md., William E. Smith and wife, Grace, of Altoona, Philip J. Smith and wife, Marie, of Alum Bank, Dolores R. Perkins and husband, Robert, of Altoona and Mary E. Snowberger and husband, Paul, of Hollidaysburg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by four siblings: Charles, James and Thomas Smith and Mildred Stafford.
Dorothy was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired in January 2011 as a senior companion at Blair Senior Services. She previously was a self-employed housekeeper for 20 years and had worked at Puritan and Proctor Silex. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, and Cathedral Christian Mothers.
Dorothy enjoyed camping.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
