Former Alaska resident Dorothy R. (Smith) Halsten, 73, died June 30, 1998, in Sisters, Ore. A memorial service was held at Sisters Community Church.
She was born May 12, 1924, in Portland, Ore., and attended schools there. After her marriage to Gordon Halsten in 1945, the couple moved to Alaska to work for the Civil Aeronautics Administration, later the Federal Aviation Administration. They served at Sheep Mountain, Sitka, Northway, Kotzebue and the Anchorage Air Route Traffic Control Cener. After retirement, they moved to Sisters. Mrs. Halsten had been active in the Republican Party, Central Lutheran Church and later Abbott Loop Church.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon; and daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Anne and the Rev. Larry Hofmann of Tama, Iowa, Christine and Dr. David Ervin of Alexandria, Va., and Deborah Halsten of Anchorage; and one grandchild, David of Tama. Burial was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
