Edith Joyce Barber, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, S.C. Edith was a longtime resident of the Middleground Community and was of the Methodist faith. She retired after 35 years of service from the Medical Center Pharmacy, where she worked as a short-order cook and was the maker of countless chicken salad sandwiches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Junior" Barber; her parents, Bernard Butler and Marie Akins Smith; and her sister, Sue Cook.
