MOULTON -- Funeral for Reuben C. Smith, 84, of Moulton will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Prince, the Rev. Dillion Calvert and the Rev. Keith Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham. He was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Blount County to the Rev. Lewis E. Smith and Jennie Epperson Smith. He was an avid hunter and sports fan, having played basketball on the independent team of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., for which he began working in the 1930s. He also played independent baseball and coached youth league. He was a member of Flat Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was a deacon for 40 years. He retired from Goodyear in 1976 and was a farmer. He was the brother of the late Gladys Dyar of Courtland, the late Gildred Smith of Montgomery, and the stepson of the late Dora Odell Smith of Moulton.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Kylie Letson Smith; two sons, Ron Smith of Auburn and Don Smith of Moulton; two daughters, Carolyn Claborn and Beverly Bentley, both of Moulton; one brother, R.B. Smith of Moulton; one sister, Reba Delashaw of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Byars, Randy Letson, Billy Allen, Scotty Letson, Kim Hensley, Avery Bealle, and Forest Smith.
