Suffragist. First president of the Woman Suffrage organization in Tennessee and president of the Tennessee Equal Rights Association. Authored "Soundings" in 1872, a controversial look at the life of prostitutes. She traveled the state, organizing suffrage unions, including interracial unions. She led the effort in obtaining an amendment to the state constitution for prohibition, raising the age of consent and giving women title to property and custody of their children.
