Louisa Jane Beetley Smeltzer

Birth: Apr. 4, 1844
Death: Feb. 2, 1900

We believe Louisa Jane Beetley was born in Warren County, Pennsylvania to a James R. Beatty or Beetley who was born about 1806 in Virginia according to federal census records. Federal census records also show his surname to be Beatty throughout his life. However, all of his children are recorded consistently as "Beetley". Louisa's mother is seen as either "Tryphina" or "Caroline" with one record listing her mothers maiden name as "Penny" out of Troy, Rensselaer County, New York but as of this date, Feb 15, 2011, this author has not been able to prove the Beatty surname or find anything on Louisa's mother in NY. Louisa's brother Lyman stays in Iowa and serves in the Civil War. Her brother Edwin moves to the Fairbury, Nebraska area and also serves in the Civil War. Her brother Francis marries Adelia "Della" Soper and moves to Greeley, Colorado where they are buried.
