DURAND - Evelyn M. Brantner, age 85, of Durand died Aug. 4, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha, Minn.
Evelyn was born on April 25, 1923, the daughter of Bert and Ethel (Anderson) Smeltzer. She was born and raised in the town of Nelson, Buffalo County. Evelyn attended Nelson schools. She married Paul Brantner on Feb. 2, 1942, in Durand. After marriage they lived in Pepin and Nelson; since 1965, they had lived in Durand. Evelyn worked at Durand Hardware for many years. Her husband, Paul, died Jan. 29, 2000. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she especially enjoyed playing cards.
Evelyn is survived by one son, Dennis Brantner, of St. Croix Falls; three grandsons, Nick (Sona) of Baraboo, Jim (Jenny) of Green Bay and Mark (Kelly) of Weston; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marian (Joseph) Fitzgerald of Minneapolis, Minn., Arvilla Kuhn of Wabasha, Minn., and Marcella (Everett) Marcou of Kellogg, Minn.; one brother, Glen (Dorothy) Smeltzer, of Aitkin, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; and one brother, Bill Smeltzer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Faith Lutheran Church in Durand. The Rev. Kathy Woller will officiate. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
