June H. Zacharias, 93, of Tarentum, died Monday, March 5, 2012, in Glendale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John L. Zacharias; parents, LeRoy and Dorothea (Drury) Smeltzer; sisters, Vivian (Lawrence) Kennedy and Charlotte (Guy) Fleming; and nieces, Carolee (Ronald) Rowley and Kathy Kennedy. June grew up in Lower Burrell and graduated from New Kensington High School in 1937. During World War II, she served three years at Scott Field during wihch time she made the grade of Buck Sergeant. In 1964, Jun opened "The Knitter's Nook" in Vandergrift, where she shared her love of knitting until she retired in 1981. June loved life, books, music, knitting and cherished her many friends. June's final resting place is in Sedona, Ariz. She is survived by her nephew, Bill (Roberta) Fleming; niece, Krystal (Dennis) Truckenbrod; and nephew, Ken (Patte) Fleming. June had requested any donations to be made in her memory be sent to the Peoples Library of New Kensington or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
