Mr. and Mrs Charles V. Small will hold open house to their friends and relatives from 2 to 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 4, at their home on Route 2, five miles northwest of Carthage. Tomorrow -March 31- marks the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Small, and the Sunday reception is planned in observance of that occasion.
The Smalls came to Carthage 27 years ago from Halltown where they had lived 17 years. Mr. Small operated a feed mill, blacksmith shop and was engaged in carpentry work in Halltown. After coming to Carthage he was employed by the Carthage Marble corporation and also was a mechanic.
Before her marriage Mrs. Small was Miss Etta Flourence McDaniel. She was born January 16, 1878 near Republic, Mo.
Charles Vester Small was born November 4, 1874 in Dade county near Ash Grove, Mo. The two were married March 31, 1898 near Halltown by the Rev. Mr. Baucom, a brother of the late J. R. Baucom of Carthage was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Small.
Mr. and Mrs. Small have seven children, Mrs. Velma Mayabb of near Halltown, Mrs. Gladys Conway of Nevada. Mrs. Neva Ulmer of Huntington Park, Calif., Everett Small of Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Anna Davis and Beauford Small of Carthage.
The eldest daughter, Mrs. Leona Knott, passed away 21 years ago at Osage, Okla.
The Smalls also have 17 grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
