Myrtice S. Henderson PAVO — Myrtice S. Henderson, 72, of Pavo, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Pavo Baptist Church.
She retired after 30 years of service teaching, primarily social studies in the Colquitt County, school system.
Her family said she is remembered for her ability to generate students' interest in history and for inspiring them to pursue life-long learning.
She was a graduate of Valdosta State College.
As a member of Pavo Baptist Church, she served in many capacities.
She was also actively involved in the Colquitt County Retired Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Educators Association.
"She is remembered for her love of reading and of books, particularly historical fiction and mysteries. She shared that love with family and friends and is fondly remembered by her children for the love of reading she instilled in them," her family said.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Hayne Henderson; son, Harold Henderson of Pavo; daughter, Holly Henderson, son-in-law, Jeff Finger, and grandson, Sloan Finger all of Dunwoody, Ga.; sister, Pauline Sloan of Pavo; brothers, Wilburn Sloan of Moultrie and Donald Sloan of North Augusta, S.C.; and many extended family members.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Dec. 30, at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations be made to Colquitt County Retired Educators Association's Scholarship for Future Educators Fund, 760 Cool Springs Rd., Norman Park, Ga. 31771.
