On 11 Oct 1861, Millersburg, Rice County, Minnesota; William L. Sloan (B: ~1835, Pennsylvania) mustered into service as a Private with Company B, 3rd Infantry. On 2 Sep 1865, he mustered out of service at Devall's Bluff, Arkansas (US Civil War Records).

On 6 Sep 1868, Rice County, Minnesota; William L. Sloan married Arthelia J. Florer (Minnesota Marriages; Certificate #MC-259).
