Carl E. Slavens, 62, Reelsville, Route 1, died Monday afernoon in the Clay County Hosal at Brazil.

He was born in Madison township on December 17, 1911, the son of Charles and Sarah Maude Gibbs Slavens.

The deceased owned and operated the Slavens Salvage Yard north of Reelsville.

He was a member of the Limedale Baptist Church, the Knightsville Masonic Lodge and the Knightsville, O.E.S.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Leigh Slavens; a daughter, Sandra Kay Nelson, Chesterton; a son, Gerald Eugene, Greencastle; two stepsons, Charles Ballou, Akron, Ohio, Samuel Ballou, at home; three brothers, Harold, Glenn and Lloyd, all of Indianapolis; four sisters, Ruth Cline, Cloverdale, Hazel Spaulding, Indianapolis, Norma Walton, Brazil, Dorothy Smith, Greencastle, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother and sister.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hopkins Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Elmer Smiley and with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
