Winona was the daughter of Robert Herbert and Bella Murphy slate. She moved to NY with her family at a young age and was a graduate of Hammond High School and Ogdensburg Business School. She worked as a waitress at Hammond Icicle Restaurant before moving to Watertown where she got a job a a messenger clerk for Western Union. She later worked as a stock clerk for Fay's Drugs before retiring in the 1980s.
She was survived by two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
