She was preceded in death by her husband, Burton, in 1993, her three sisters, LaMoin Milligan, Nova Ravan, Stella Mae Slape, and brother Rouse Slape.

Survivors include her son Randall and wife Audrey of Roseburg; son, Donald and wife Lynne of Sutherlin and her brother Reverend E.G. Slape and wife Ruth of Mosier, Oregon. She was blessed with three grandchildren: Randall, Jr. of Abilene, Kansas, Christine Steiner of Roseburg and D'Ann Henry of Umpqua, Oregon; seven great-grandchildren: Aura of Portland, Oregon, Danny, Julie, Randall III, and Morgan Lee, of Kansas, W.D. and Jimmy of Umpqua, Oregon and great-great-grandchild MacKenzie of Rantoul, Illinois.

Velma also leaves a circle of many dear friends who were touched by her life and loved her very much. She was a caring and giving person willing to help when and wherever she could. There's no doubt that she has found her new home in Heaven. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and many kinds of crafts and was devoted to church activities and her family. Velma was a member of the Assembly of God Faith Tabernacle in Roseburg since 1960.
