Beatrice Evazee (Skelton) Baker, 70, died Sunday, January 22, 1984 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK.
Her parents were Roy Lee and Dema Adeline (Hankins) Skelton. Her only sibling was Clyde Edward Skelton.
Born March 24, 1913 in Millerton, Oklahoma, Beatrice had lived in McCurtain County all of her life. She and Luther Houston "Lute" Baker were married January 27, 1932 in Valliant, OK.
Beatrice and her husband, Luther celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on January 27, 1982. A reception was held in their home in Mt. Zion Community, southeast of Valliant, OK, and there were lots of friends and family who attended.
They lived in Farmers' Hill community for a while, but for the most years of their marriage, they lived in Mt. Zion Community. All their children attended Mt. Zion School, and they all graduated from 8th Grade there. Then they were all bussed to Valliant High School. Beatrice also graduated from 8th Grade at Mt. Zion School, but she didn't go on to Valliant High School.
Beatrice was a very good cook, and she sewed dresses for all her daughters. Sometimes, the dresses were made out of flour-sack material. She always had a large garden every year and canned lots of fruits and vegetables from her garden.
Beatrice (Skelton) Baker was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee and Dema Adeline (Hankins) Skelton; a son, Kenneth Ray Baker and a granddaughter, Tamitha Jane Baker.
In addition to her husband, Luther, she was survived by five (5) daughters; Lottie Mae (Baker) Burks of Idabel, OK, Ruth Imogene (Baker) Barnard, of Oklahoma City, OK, Edith Yvonne (Baker) Ferran, of Albuquerque, NM, Wanda Lou (Baker) Bradley and Helen Marie (Baker) Foglesong, both of Del City, OK. She was also survived by one brother, Clyde Edward Skelton, of Wright City, OK; thirteen (13) grandchildren and six (6) great grandchildren.
Beatrice Baker died January 22, 1984 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 24, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Idabel, Norwood Funeral Chapel. The pall bearers were her grandsons.
Arrangements and burial at the Valliant Cemetery, Valliant, McCurtain County, Oklahoma were under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel, OK.
Beatrice Evazee (Skelton) Baker was a very nice and likable lady, and no one could have said it better than her husband of 52 years, Luther did when he found out that she had passed away after being in the hospital for several days. He said,"Well, Bea was a good woman!"
