Major Joseph W. Skelton was born near Princeton, Ind., February 22, 1936, and died at his residence, 167 North Rowan avenue, Los Angeles, Cal., March 13th. He had been poorly for about two years but only bedfast three days. He was married in 1857 to Bell Farmer of Princeton, Ind., who died in 1861. To this union two children were born: Walter, who died in early childhood, and Flora, Mrs. W. J. Carner (sic), who died in 1902. In 1866 he was married to Mary A. Dodd in Indiana. The moved to Hamilton county (Nebraska) in 1873, where they resided until about twenty years ago, when they moved to Broken Bow and later to California. He was widely known as the proprieter of the old St. Joe farm and town on section 9-10-8 in Deepwell precinct (Nebraska). He leaves a wife, one son, Ray, and two daughters, Nettie Schneider and Bertie Dixon of Los Angeles, also four grandchildren.
