Funeral services for Irma J. Skelley, 72 were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2003, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Monticello. Burial was held in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Irma Skelley of Monticello died Friday, June 27, 2003 at her home in Monticello.
Irma Jean Bohlken was born March 20, 1931 at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, the daughter of T.R. and Elise Eden Bohlken. Irma graduated from the Monticello High School in 1949.
Irma Jean Bohlken and Donald C. Skelley were united in marriage August 7, 1950, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello. She enjoyed over 45 years with her bridge club, her flower gardens, the Skelley's Nutstick stand at the Great Jones County Fair and her partnership in Skelley's Market, she enjoyed her work with Country Gardens Greenhouse and Yo-Ho Manufacturing.
Her grandchildren were the joys of her life. She was an active supporter of the Camp Courageous fruitcake fundraiser, and a long time member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Monticello.
Survivors include her husband, Donald, Monticello; two daughters, Sandy (Steve) Spurbeck, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Sharon K. Moore, West Des Moines, two sons, Jerry T. (Linda) Coon Rapids, Minn., and Jeffrey W. (Lorena), Cary, Ill., four grandchildren, Jenny (Nick), Kim, Otto and Quentin.
