Skates, 85, of Paris died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at the Sam Rayburn Veterans Center in Bonham. Graveside services are set for 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Hamm officiating. He was born June 3, 1917, in Hopkins County, to Thomas F. and Edna Ross Skates. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served the people of Paris as a policeman. He later owned and operated a restaurant in Paris. Survivors include his son, Mark Skates and wife, Crystal, and Shirley Skates Milam; his sister, Louise Rhodes; and five grandchildren.
