GIRARD — Michael David Sisney, 59, of rural Girard, passed away at 2:43 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Via Christi Medical Center after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
He was born June 16, 1951 at Neodesha, KS, a son of Dale Douglas and Helen (Mapes) Sisney. He was raised in Arcadia, KS and attended Arma schools. After graduating from the Arma High School, he began working for the Kansas City Southern Rail Road. He was employed with the rail road from 1970 until 1988. He then worked at the Girard Golf Course.
On July 17, 1976 he and Nancy Burns were united in marriage at Beulah, KS.
He was Christian. He coached little league and youth baseball for many years and enjoyed playing softball and golf. He was a dog lover and enjoyed coon hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, which were the light of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Nancy Sisney, of the home; one son and daughter in-law, Michael Douglas and Melissa (Hanson) Sisney of Girard; three grandchildren, Evan, Aydin and Marli Sisney of Girard; his mother, Helen Sisney, of Arcadia; three brothers, Steve Sisney of Hiattville, Kan., Greg Sisney and his wife Theresa of Arcadia, and Jeff Sisney and his wife Sherry of rural Arcadia; and two sisters, Sherry Sisney of Indianapolis, and Susan Cherry of Olathe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Douglas Sisney.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Girard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-4 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Angels Among Us, or to an education fund established for the grandchildren.
