Mamie I. Blackwell
Mamie I. Blackwell, 80, of Elm Street died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at her home.
She was a former employee of the United States Naval Station at Treasure Island, Calif., where she was supervisor of the keypunch communication department. She retired from Jefferson County Police Department in Louisville, Ky., where she was a dispatcher.
She was a member of New Mount Sinah Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville and Zeta Phi Beta sorority and Abundant Love Prayer Band.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Rowe and Thomas E. Short Jr. officiating. Calling will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements were made by Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home.
Born in Columbia, Tenn., Sept. 24, 1920, Mrs. Blackwell was the daughter of Lee W. and Mattie R. Kilcrease Sims. She was the widow of James Blackwell.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Short of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Claude, Joe and Jim Sims; and a sister, Cumyria Walker.
