She was born to J.R. (Reet) Myrick and Bertha Lena Page Myrick in La Ward, on July 7, 1933, but was raised in Jamestown, La. She graduated from high school in Castor, La., in 1953. On Nov. 25, 1960, she married Stanley E. Sims in Shreveport, La., a marriage that lasted 49 wonderful years.
Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church in Tyler at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, with Dr. Mary Maxine Palmer and Dr. Chris Pulliam officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler. Viewing will also be at First Christian Church prior to the service. A second service will be at Mount Olive Cemetery, Jamestown, La., where she will be buried at 3 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2009. Reta is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Stanley E. Sims; two children, Susan Bradley and husband Shawn of Tyler, and Robert E. Sims and wife Trenda of Tyler. She is also survived by her grandson, Jackson E. Sims, who knew her as "Meme." She is also survived by her sisters (who called her "Pagie"), Barbara M. Cathey and husband Edwin M. Cathey of Asheville, N.C., and Carrie M. Schwartz of Piney Flats, Tenn. She was "Aunt Pagie" to her nieces, nephews and other family members who survive her.
Pallbearers will be Ray Head, Edwin Cathey, Ed Cathey, Rodney Cathey, James Y. Sims and Jerry Stuck. Honorary pallbearer is her son, Robert Sims.
Memorials may be made to the Bienville Education Foundation Minchew Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 116, Castor, La., 71016; or the Chancel Choir at First Christian Church, where Reta sang for more than 25 years; or to Hospice of East Texas.
The family would like to thank the staff at MICU Mother Frances Hospital, Drs. David Johnson and Jonathan Markowitz, the caregivers at Girling Health Services and Annette Anderson who cared for Mother during the last four years of her illness.
