ALFRED H SIMS FUNERAL HELD SAT., MARCH 7
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist church for Alfred Houston Sims, long time Arcadia resident, who died at his home Friday morning, March 6 following a brief illness.
Officiating at the services were the Rev. Paul B Williamson, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist church and the Rev. John H Sewell, pastor of the First United Methodist. Burial was at the Arcadia cemetery under the direction of Conger Funeral Home.
Grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers including William Randy Rich, George Russell Sims, Ronnie Atkins Sims, Michael D. Abramson, Thomas D. Coleman and George Deacon.
Alf Sims was born August 20, 1894 in the Sugar Creek area, Claiborne Parish, the son of George Washington Sims and Ursula Owens Sims. He was married in 1914 to the former Evie Rogers, who survives her husband. They moved to Arcadia about 48 years ago. Sims was a prominent farmer and cattleman. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Arcadia.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evie Sims, two sons, G W Sims of Athens, and A H Sims, Jr. of Shreveport; one daughter, Mrs. Nelda Rich of Shreveport; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
