Thomas Simpson was born in England, Dec. 25th, 1829, and died at his home in Naperville, May 11th, 1902, aged 72 years, 4 months and 16 days. When he was one year of age his parents moved to America and settled near Whitehall, New York. At the age of 26 he came to Illinois and settled on a farm about five miles from Naperville. In 1858 he was married to Lucretia Reed. He lived on his farm until his children were grown; he then moved to Naperville. He was the oldest son of a family of five children, and the last of his generation, his father, mother, two brothers and two sisters having preceded him to the other world. He was a genial host and a kind neighbor.
In his last illness his children were with him most of the time and were with him at the last. In his last hours his wife, who was ill, was carried to his bedside. He had previously been told that his time was short. She asked him if he wished to meet his loved ones beyond to which he replied, "Yes." He was asked to repeat the words, Lord Jesus I give myself to thee, and he replied, "I have said it," and shortly afterward expired.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, who for almost forty-four years has been his faithful companion, and four children, Robert Simpson of DuPage, Mrs. Nettie Chandler of West Chicago, Mrs. Anna Austin of Custer Park, Mrs. Josie Bard of Naperville. His second son George died in 1885.
Funeral was held from his home Tuesday, May 13, interment in Naperville cemetery. Rev. Fiske of the M. E. Church officiated.
