Emma Elizabeth Simon Grise, 79, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Grise was born on July 7, 1931 in LaBeta, West Virginia. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Vargo Simon, both of whom were Hungarian immigrants. Mrs. Grise was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. She graduated from Louisville General Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1954, and later graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Teaching Certificate in School Health and English- MAEd. Mrs. Grise loved her job as Madison County School Health Nurse, and retired as Madison County School Health Coordinator in 2002. She greatly loved the students she served. Mrs. Grise was a devout follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Richmond, and the Women of Faith Sunday School Class. She was actively involved in the community through her volunteer work with Open Concern and the Red Cross Blood Mobile, as well as serving on the Health Advisory Committee of Kentucky Tech- Madison County Center.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grise was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Monica McNulty, and one brother, Johnny Simon.
Survivors include: four children, Elizabeth Jane Grise, of Lexington, Kentucky, Susan Grise McNulty and husband, Steven D. McNulty, of Dothan, Alabama, William M. Grise and wife, Shannon Jones Grise, of Richmond, Kentucky, and Amy Grise Fortkamp, of Louisville, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Amanda S. McNulty, Spencer D. McNulty, William Z. Grise, and Christian A. Grise; and one brother, Billy Simon, of West Virginia.
Funeral services for Emma Grise at the First United Methodist Church of Richmond with Rev. Gene Strange officiating. A private entombment will take place later at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Spencer D. McNulty, Christian A. Grise, William Z. Grise, Jeffrey A. Blythe, Gary Ford, and Billy Way. Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Vockery and the Women of Faith Sunday School Class.
