Bertha Silvers Harwood, 64, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Avery and Liddia King Silvers. She was preceded in death by a brother: Nealy Silvers; and, a sister: Ruth Herron. Bertha was a former employee of Ohio Electric and Shenna's Restaurant in Barnardsville, and was retired from OTS, Inc. in Weaverville.
Surviving are 2 sons: Mark McMahan of Burnsville and Jason Harwood and wife, Malena, of Barnardsville; 4 grandsons: Avery, Cameron, John and Jason; 2 brothers: Lloyd Silvers of Burnsville and Junior King of Leicester; 5 sisters: Lola Radford and Helen Robinson of Burnsville, June Laws of Asheville, Shirley Dockery of Fletcher and Ruby Harbor of Eden; and, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. David Garland and Tommy Murphy officiated. A graveside service was held in the King Cemetery at Elk Shoal.
