WAYNE - Services for Alfred J. Sievers, 86, of Wayne will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with military rites at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Hasemann-Schumacher Funeral Home with family present 6-8 p.m.

 

He died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Providence Medical Center.

 

Alfred John Sievers was born Feb. 27, 1921, to Carl and Frieda (Grimm) Sievers on a farm in Wayne County east of Wayne. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church southeast of Wayne. Alfred attended school at District 19 and Wayne High School.

 

He served in the United States Army during World War II from Oct. 2, 1942, until Nov. 26, 1945, and received the Presidential Citation and four Battle Stars.

 

Alfred was married to Ailene Menke on Dec. 28, 1945, at Redeemer Lutheran Church parsonage in Wayne by Rev. S.K. De Freese. The couple farmed in the Wayne and Winside areas for 24 years before moving to Wayne. Alfred then worked as a dredger, pumping gravel, until 1993 at West Point, Wisner and Pilger.

 

He was member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne. Alfred loved having his grandchildren come to visit and spending time with them.

 

Alfred is survived by his wife, Ailene; two daughters, four sons; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Humphry of Ventura, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

 

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Verne; sister, Edith; and one great-grandson, Matthew Carstens.

 

Honorary pallbearers are Alfred and Ailene's granddaughters. Active pallbearers are Alfred and Ailene's grandsons.
