Gladys Pearl Binegar, 88, of Elmwood passed away at 7:49 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, surrounded by family.

She was born to Frank Edward Siegel and Nellie Elizabeth Penn Siegel on Dec. 14, 1920, in Douglas, Neb., the first daughter of their nine children. She grew up in Oak Hill, Ill., and married Carl Merle Binegar on Jan. 21, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo.

While Merle served in World War II, Pearl worked as part of the female work force at Caterpillar Tractor Company. She retired from Elmwood Grade School and enjoyed her later years quilting, reading and staying abreast of politics.

Mrs. Binegar was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Carl Merle Binegar; infant son, Stephen Carl; one sister, Vivian Moody; and five brothers, Elwood, Edward, Henry, Robert and Darrell; nephew, Dennis Pillischafske; and niece, Sheila Siegel.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and John Schlobohm of Edwards; and daughter, Carla Binegar Wood of Dallas, Texas. Her grandsons and their wives are Ryan and Carolyn Schlobohm of East Peoria and Jeremy and Marry Schlobohm and their children, Hailey and Bryce, of Edwards. She also leaves behind her two sisters and their husbands, Veva and Gene Windish of Brimfield and Marie and Bob Pillischafske-Hall of Bellevue; and one sister-in-law, Louise Siegel of Peoria. In addition, she is survived by 22 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

At a private graveside service, Mrs. Binegar will be interred beside her husband and son in the family plot at Cottonwood Cemetery.
