Mrs. Matilda Arnold

The death of Mrs. Matilda Arnold occurred last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John H. Wild after an illness which had confined her to her bed since July 6th.

Mrs. Arnold was in her eighty-ninth year and for the past two years has been failing in health. Death was due to the infirmities of age and bronchitis.

Matilda Sides was born in Decatur on February 17, 1843, the daughter of William and Hannah Hagar Sides. When she was five years of age the family moved to Westford. At the time of her marriage to John Arnold they resided at Elk Creek, and all of her married life was spent in the town of Maryland.

To them was born six children, two sons, the oldest and youngest having died. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John H. Wild, Mrs. George Gilander of Schenectady, and Mrs. harry Hemenway of Los Angeles, Cal.; also one son, George Arnold, of Chaseville; a granddaughter, Mrs. George A. Frietaz of Los Angeles and a grandson DeForest J. Arnold of Chaseville.

Mrs. Arnold was a member of the Baptist church in Chaseville and when health permitted was a regular attendant at services in the Baptist church in Schenevus. She was a woman much interested in her family, friends and church, and will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. John H. Wild of Monitor Street. The Rev. h.C. Hayward, pastor of the Schenevus Baptist church officiated, reading passages of scripture and portions of several favorite hymns, followed by a prayer.

Interment was made in the family plot in Maryland cemetery. The pall bearers were the son and grandson, George Arnold and DeForest Arnold; also two sons-in-law, John H. Wild and George Gilander. Relatives from out of town, other than immediate members of the family, also friends from a distance were the Misses Lulu Arnold and Ruth Delong, Oneonta; Louis Wild, Tarrytown; W.H. Wild, Schenectady; Mr. and Mrs. Maguire, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spencer, Schenectady; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kilkenny, Ballston Lake; Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Clark, Oneonta; Mrs. Dora Brownell, Maryland.
