1938 — 2015
Patricia Ann (Pat) Shumate Greenfield, 77, formerly of Burchett Boulevard, Morehead, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, community leader, and volunteer, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospice in Lexington.
Pat was born January 8, 1938, in Huntington, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Ballard Preston and Amy Mozzelle Hayes Shumate.
In 1970, Pat and her husband, Dana G. Greenfield, along with their children, Rich and Dee, moved to Morehead where Dana became the resident engineer for Cave Run Lake and Pat immersed herself in family life, work, church, and civic activities. Dana and Pat were married June 4, 1960; he passed away December 20, 2009.
Pat received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marshall University and spent more than 40 years as a medical technologist. Her professional career included working at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland; Jewish Hospital in Louisville; Wabash County Hospital in Wabash, Indiana; and St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Pat's energy and enthusiasm for service extended beyond the workplace. She accepted positions of leadership in a number of organizations including P.E.O. (serving as president twice, recording secretary, and treasurer); Morehead Woman's Club (held almost every office, including president); and Kentucky Association of Blood Banks, (secretary). She was also passionate about serving as a Girl Scout leader and volunteering at Girl Scout Camp Judy Layne for a number of years. Pat also valued her volunteer efforts at the People's Clinic.
A long-time member of Morehead United Methodist Church, Pat served on the Administrative Council, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of United Methodist Women. She and Dana enjoyed many church activities including the Builders Class and Merry Mixers functions.
Pat and Dana loved entertaining family and friends, traveling, snow skiing and camping.
Pat is survived by one son, Richard Preston Greenfield and wife Sandra of Lumberton, North Carolina; one daughter, Dee Ann Greenfield Hunter and husband Walter of Chesterfield, Virginia; two grandchildren, Brandon Walter Hunter and Megan Ann Hunter, both of Chesterfield, Virginia; and one brother, Ballard Preston Shumate and wife Rita of Elkhorn City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Mansfield officiating. Burial will follow at
