VADA JEWELL SHUMATE KEARNS, age 94, KY Hwy. 1743, Cynthiana, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at her residence. Born in Fleming County, May 18, 1912, to the late Hayden and Bertha Brammer Shumate, she was a retired Hansley Mills employee and a member of the Elmarch United Methodist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Finnie Colvin Kearns; a brother, Ira Shumate; seven sisters, Emma Harney, Verona Malone, Minnie Kearns, Dovie Kearns, Westy Stone Brown, Dorothy Osborne and Hazel Shumate and a daughter-in-law, Faye Kearns.

She is survived by a son, Harold D. Kearns, Harrison County; a daughter, Wanda Jane (Maurice G.) West, Harrison County; five grandchildren, David Kearns, Cathy (Dr. David) Grinstead, Teresa (Douglas) Lane, Glenn West and Cynthia (David) Vickers; eight great grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home by Rev. Wayne Spivey. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
