VALE ~ Debra "Debbie" Jean Shull Cook, 57, passed away Jan. 31, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Born in Catawba County on June 18, 1955, she is a daughter of Jerry and Gladys Shull. Mrs. Cook was valedictorian of Fred T. Foard High School in 1973. She continued her education at Lenoir-Rhyne College where she received her BA Degree in Education. Retiring as a public school teacher, she enjoyed her years in the classrooms at Union Elementary , Banoak Elementary and S. Ray Lowder Elementary. A teacher loved by her students, Mrs. Cook received the Catawba County Teacher of the Year Award. She was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where she has played the piano for the past thirteen years, was a member of the choir , and taught the Young Adults Discipleship Class. An avid Tarheel fan, she was a lover of reading and flowers. Her family was the light of her life and she always thought of others before herself. She loved family get togethers and trips to the mountains.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston is serving the family.
