Lilly A. Cagle, 84, of Big Burn Circle, Sylva, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, June 2) in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Burrell, Charles Carnes, Tim Dillard, Sherrill Ammons, Larry Nations and Larry Cagle officiating. The family was scheduled to receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cagle Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Smith, Jack Sutton, Shane Danner, Doyle Buchanan, and Lynn and Tim Biddix.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was the last of 10 children of the late Rufus and Tereasie Woods Shuler.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Cagle; one son, Burnette Cagle; two daughters, Wilma and Artie Cagle; one stepdaughter, Nanette Buchanan; and two stepsons, Frank and Will Cagle.

Surviving are four daughters, Jessie Shields, Annie D. Moore, Mary Sue Coggins and Martha Lou Buchanan, all of Sylva; two sons, Allen Cagle and Earl Robert Cagle Jr., both of Sylva; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; more than 20 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Cagle Cemetery Fund, c/o Earl Robert Cagle Jr., 179 Angel Watch Ridge, Sylva, NC 28779.
