"A Good Woman Gone
"Seward County lost one of its best citizens when Mrs. Lucy Campbell passed away at the home of her son, A. Campbell, in D Precinct Monday. Mrs. Campbell was born in Illinois. In 1858 she was married to A. Campbell who preceded her in death 15 years ago. In 1882 they located on a farm north of Tamora. For the last 35 years Mrs. Campbell has been a resident of Tamora or vicinity. Mrs. Campbell was 81 years, 3 months and 4 days old at the time of her death. She leaves three sons and fourteen grandchildren to mourn her loss. In early life she became a member of the Christian church and throughout her life she lived a Christian life. Mrs. Campbell went through life shedding brightness wherever she went. The glory of womanhood was increased by her life. She has always had the high esteem of her neighbors and her death is mourned by all who knew her. The funeral services were held at Tamora. They were conducted by Rev. Bert L. Story. Interment was made in the cemetery at Utica.

[Transcript of her obituary, from online records of Darrow Little]
Her parents were Edom Shugart (b. 1810, Tennessee; d. 6 Aug 1897, 2 miles north of Tamora, Seward County, Nebraska) and Elizabeth F (Troxel) Shugart (b. 3 May 1816, Kentucky; d. 11 Jun 1852, Missouri, on the trail to Texas). Edom's funeral was at his daughter Lucy's home. Edom (twice widowed) shares a gravestone with his third wife, Ellen, in Utica Cemetery, Utica, Seward, Nebraska.
Edom's parents were Nathan Shugart and Lucinda "Lucy" Brewer. Lucy remarried (23 Jun 1837, William Downing, also called Downen, Macon County records), with burial as Lucy Downen. (Another online cemetery list has Lucy's age at death as 57y, a better fit than the 52y shown in the memorial.)
