ANNA BOLEN RITES MONDAY MARCH 16
Funeral services were held Monday, March 16, 1970, from the First Baptist Church, Holyoke, for Anna Bolen, 90, who passed away Friday, March 13, at Melissa Memorial Hospital.
Rev. Howard Amstutz and Rev. Dwight Chaffin officiated. interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Anna Althea Bolen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Shue, was born November 22, 1880, in Kearney, Nebraska. She grew to womanhood in that area and later attended college in Hastings, Nebraska. She taught in the county schools until her marriage.
She was married to Elbert LeRoy Bolen on January 4, 1905, and to this union three children were born.
In 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Bolen, with their family, moved to a farm south of Holyoke, where they and their sons engaged in farming. Mr. Bolen passed away in January 1953. Mrs. Bolen continued to live on the farm, until the home was destroyed by a tornado on May 24, 1965.
She moved to Holyoke where she resided in a trailer house until June 27, 1968; when her health began to fail she moved to Sheridan Manor Nursing home where she lived until her death.
Mrs. Bolen became a member of the Presbyterian church at an early age and was a faithful member of that church until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother, a son, Lawrence in 1965, and one grandson, Lloyd, in 1964.
She is survived by a son, Willard, and a daughter, Vesper, both of Holyoke; a brother, Edd Shue, Holdrege, Nebraska; four grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
