MRS. JOHN LUKE
Kate Shreeve, daughter of Jacob and Catherine Shreeve, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 15, 1853, and departed this life at her home April 15, 1949, the day of her 96th birthday. She had been ill for about two years prior to death.
She was united in marriage to John Luke in the year 1873 at Ottumwa, Iowa. To this union ten children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 23, 1934, and by two sons, John and Edward, and two daughters, Isabella and Catherine.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, J. R. Luke, of Dallas, and five daughters, Emma Giles, of Lamoni; Elizabeth Lane, Mable Myers and Jeanette Wickline, all of Chariton; and Mary Potter, of Ottumwa; also 28 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
On June 26, 1898, at Beacon, Iowa, Mrs. Luke united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a faithful member until death.
Funeral services, under the direction of the Downs Funeral Home, were held Monday, April 18, at 2:30 p.m., at the L.D.S. church with Elder J. W. Blackstock officiating. Burial was made in the Chariton cemetery.
