Ella was the seventh of ten children of William Whitman and Christiana Steckel Whitman. She was often called Ellen. She grew up in Tinicum Twp., Bucks Co.
She married William H. Shoudt about 1883. Ellen's younger sister Annie later married William's younger brother Charles. The sisters were very close.
Ellen and William had six children: Emma Nora in 1883, Annie L. in 1886, Mary E. in 1889, Elmer in 1891, Carrie May in 1897 and Lillian in 1900. Their daughter Annie died aged six years.
Ellen was a housewife, and she lived in Upper Black Eddy (Bridgeton Twp.) all of her adult life.
She had six known grandchildren and nine additional known descendants as of early 2009.
