Ella was the third of six children of Charles Shoudt and Christiana 'Annie' Whitman Shoudt. She was close to her sister Bertha.

She married Paul Holcombe Quick. They were the parents of a son, Earl Miller Quick, who was born in 1921.

Ella grew up in Bridgeton, moved to Holland Twp., Hunterdon Co., New Jersey for a short time, and then lived the rest of her life in Phillipsburg.

She worked as a domestic servant and in a silk mill as a young woman.

Ella was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg.
