Mena S. Engstrom, 84, former resident. Mena S. Engstrom passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2002 in Boise, ID. Mena was born Dec. 12, 1917 in Provo, UT to D. George and Minnie Shorten. She was raised and educated in Ogden, UT. She married Lamar "Swede" Engstrom March 15, 1940 and together they had two sons and one daughter. Following their marriage they moved to Tempe, AZ, where Mena worked as a bookkeeper. She returned to Ogden when her husband entered the service and later joined him for a time in Mississippi, returning again to Ogden during Swede's overseas tour of duty. Following Swede's discharge they lived for a time in Boise and then Pendleton, OR before moving to Orofino in 1955. There they purchased and operated the Orofino Creamery until selling the business in 1971. Afterwards they managed the Konkolville Motel for eight years, then moved to Salem, OR in 1989 to be near their daughter and family. They settled in Boise in 1992. Mena was active in the community during her years in Orofino. Her favorite pasttime was spending time with her granddaughters and being involved in their activities.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Swede, of Boise; two sons, Chris Engstrom of Washington, UT, Charles Engstrom of Olympia WA, and daughter Patti Wilson of Boise; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother Ralph Shorten of Washington, UT. Graveside services will be held Friday morning at the Huntsville City Cemetery in Utah. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Idaho Commission for the Blind, 341 W. Washington, Boise, ID 83702.
