Mrs. Howard was born Nov. 22, 1937 at Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Kenneth and Opal Dilley Shores. Dixie was a homemaker and retired as assistant city clerk for the City of Mulberry. She was raised in Coffeyville, Kansas and graduated from the Altamont High School. She had been a resident of Mulberry since 1959. She married John Howard on Sept. 25, 1952 at Coffeyville, Kansas. Mr. Howard survives at the home. She was a member of the Mulberry American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, John of the home, a son, Mike (Brenda) Howard of Mulberry, a sister, Karen Keeton of Coffeyville, Kansas, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kenny Howard and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas with the Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be at the Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel where friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family suggests memorials to the Gentiva Hospice. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
