Don Shores, 69, of Waco, formerly of Fort Worth and Austin, passed away peacefully April 12, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Cross Timber Baptist Church, 2560 FM 731 in Burleson.
Don was born in Pauls Valley, Okla., to Lee Cruce Shores and Maxine Shores. He married Loretta McKee Shores in 1958, in Oklahoma City. Upon graduation from the University of Oklahoma, he entered into a life-long career in the broadcast industry, retiring in 1995 from local television station KXXV, from a position of General Sales Manager. Upon retirement, he began working as a substitute school teacher for the Waco school system; a job which earned less money than he had ever made, but in which he found the most personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Mr. Shores was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodway.
Don is survived by his wife of 50 years, Loretta; daughters, Shellie Shores, of Austin, and Leslie Shores Whitson and husband, Scott, of Burleson; grandchildren, Caleb, Hannah, Sarah and Jonathan; and brothers, Lee Shores and wife, Flor, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Tom Shores and wife, JoAnn, of Sacramento, Calif.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Scott & White clinic and hospital in Temple.
For those wishing to make memorial donations, the family suggests Scott & White Hospice or any other hospice program.
