Aug. 7, 1952 — Oct. 17, 2007
Pamela Carolyn Olmstead, 55, went peacefully to sleep after a sudden illness on Wednesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
Born Aug. 7, 1952, in Rockford, Ill., she was the daughter of William and Marian Shores.
With her sister, Linda, Pam grew up in Rockford, and after high school, traveled west for school in Colorado before settling in Corvallis in 1975. She worked in the retail industry at Payless, Williams Drugs and Rice's Pharmacy before retiring in 2006.
After meeting as co-workers at Payless, Pam and her husband, Pat Olmstead, a local Realtor, were married June 21, 1986, in Albany. Soon after, the couple moved to a rural property east of Corvallis.
Having grown up in a large city, Pam relished the country life, renovating her dream home and cultivating huge vegetable and fruit gardens with Pat. She loved nature and all plants, and poured much creative energy into her landscaping. Antiques and crafts were another passion, along with her loving devotion to her animal friends.
During their long and happy partnership, Pam and Pat enjoyed visiting with their many friends, traveling together, dancing, and attending folk, country and rock concerts. Although not blessed with children, Pam was an active presence in the lives of many young people, including her goddaughter, Sara Lindsey.
Pam was preceded in death by her sister in 1983 and her parents in 2005, her brother-in-law, Tim, and her father-in-law, Gerald.
She is survived by her husband; mother-in-law Mary Jo; brothers-in-law Dan and Mike; sisters-in-law Mary Kay, Jean and April; 13 nieces and nephews; cousins Beth Gaffney, Diane Sanders and Patty Bianchi, and aunt Kate Campbell, all of Arizona; and her beloved pets, spaniels Burl and Doolin and cats Mick and Burt.
Cremation arrangements are with McHenry Funeral Home. Pam's life will be celebrated privately with her family and friends.
