The funeral for Leroy M. "Patty" Shones will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Grace United Church of Christ in Millville, with the Rev. Doris Ruben officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery.
Mr. Shones, 71, of Millville, died Thursday (Oct. 9, 2008) at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center Nursing Home in Wabasha.
Leroy Maynard Shones was born Feb. 16, 1937, in Millville, and attended Millville school district 89 and Plainview High School. On March 17, 1955, he married Vera Harmon at Trinity Lutheran Church-Bremen in rural Millville. They made their home along the banks of the Zumbro River.
Mr. Shones was a truck driver for Harry Shones Trucking and Bud Meyer Trucking, and also worked at Bemmels Junk Yard, Gould, Millville Feed Mill, and Mason Trucking. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, was known as a handyman, and enjoyed woodworking, feeding the birds, and collecting bells.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Connie (Randy) Salgy, Dawn (Jim) Danckwart and Shelly (Terry) Kopp, all of Lake City, Vickie (Randy) Hoekstra of Lewiston and Carol (David) Hobbs of Millville; three sons, Glenn of Wabasha, Scott (Katie) of Hammond and Bruce of Millville; 27 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris (David) Wadley of Millville and Delores (Donald) Plank of Lake City. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Gladys Shones of Millville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna (Blattner) Shones; two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, and an hour before the service Monday at the church in Millville.
