GARBER, CAROL MARGARETT, 80, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006 at her residence. She was born to Osbert and May Shipman in Chippewa Falls, WI, on September 28, 1926 and was raised in Rhinelander, WI. Mrs. Garber was a cadet nurse, graduating from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Racine, WI, in 1947. She was a very active member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Eastern Star, KY, Nurses Association and the Kentuckian Girl Scout Council. She also volunteered her time and talents in service of her community in a variety of other ways, including tutoring at St. MAM. On January 23, 1948 she married her high school sweetheart, John R. Garber, by whom she is survived. She was the loving mother of Carol Getch (Richard), Dr. Jeffrey Garber (Candace) and Douglas Garber; and the cherished grandmother of Carrie Gaerte, Jon Getch, Sarah Getch, Kenneth Getch, Joshua Garber, Matthew Garber and Daniel Garber. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren; her brother, Dr. Robert Shipman; and sisters, Jane Tillman and Donna May Miesbauer. An open service of celebration and praise for her life will take place at 11 a.m. on January 23, 2007 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane, St. Matthews, KY.
