|Birth: ||Apr., 1851|
|Death: ||Jan. 28, 1915|
The daughter of John Oliver Shinn of North Carolina and Cynthia Yarborough of Tennessee. Granddaughter of Silas Benjamin Shinn and Elizabeth Little, natives of North Carolina. Wed James Brown Vassar June 4, 1868, in Sonoma County, California. In 1870 they were living in the Alexander Valley area of Healdsburg, between Benjamin D. Vassar (who owned land), Rachel, Andrew J., Relty A., Samuel H., and Jacob in one address, and Jarret Vassar, Jane and Elizabeth in a third address. James was farming at that time. The same U.S. Census found Cynthia Shinn, Robert F., Andrew J., Eliza J., John d., and Mary E. closer to Healdsburg, where the remnants of a monument for John D. SH _ are found in the Hall Cemetery.
Her life is hard to follow as records from the 1850's list her as a male with a given name Ciselone, and other variants: Sisalonia. The Shinn and Vassar families are found in many northern California cemeteries.
