BETTENDORF Lucille Brookhart, 71, of Bettendorf, died Friday, January 16, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center West Campus, Davenport.
Burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
Lucille was born February 13, 1937, in Chapel, Missouri, the daughter of Eldress and Goldie Myrtle (Garr) Shinn. She was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Brookhart on July 23, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2000.
She will be remembered by many as a good, dependable, strong and caring person. She would gladly share her time with anyone who called upon her. She was devoted to her family, they were her life.
Her hobbies were painting and garage sales. Some of her paintings earned her awards in local and state fairs. She shared this talent with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her son James E. (Deidre) Brookhart, of Olive Branch, Mo.; her daughter, Brenda (Ken) Levan, of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Teresa (Ryan)Bales, Kenneth (Jennifer) Levan, Shane (Michelle) Levan, Ben Brookhart, Jessie (John) Knost and Brent Brookhart; her great-grandchildren, Korey Lee, Kaitlyn Lucille, Austin Lee, James Joseph, Rylee Kay, Natalie Louise, Justyn Ray, Hunter Christopher, Amber Lynn and Dustin Joe.
The following was a constant on her refrigerator as were many coloring book pages: What is Success? To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approval of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of ones self without the slightest thought of return; to have accomplished a task, whether by a healthy child, a rescued soul, a garden patch or redeemed social condition; to have played ands laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exaltation; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived: This is to have succeeded.
She was very successful, very loved and we will miss her much.
