Daughter of James Shields and Dulcena Nunn Shields. After her father died near Christina, Mendocino. Dulcena married Joseph Murdock Hooper, the son of Obediah Carter Cyrus Hooper in Anderson Valley. Dulcena and Joseph are living as a family 1880 in Ukiah, Ca. Dulcina is Stepmother to the Hooper children, plus her daughters are there too.
Sarah moved to Wheatland with her mother and stepfather, living near Joseph Hooper's parents.
She married Thomas Edward Bevan in 1877. She died 1886 and is in the Bevan plot near her husband in a unmarked grave.The office has her listed buried there, but another headstone has been placed in her place.
Her Aunt was Capt John Grigsby's wife (Mahala Shields Grigsby) of the Grigsby/Ide Wagon Train which stopped at Johnson Crossing in Oct 17, 1847 having made it thru the pass the first wagon train with their wagons.Mahala helped make the first Bear Flagg in the California Revolt.
Sarah's father , James Shields and her 1/2 sister Candance came on a wagon train thru Wheaton in 1849 before staying with Grigsby in Yountville area. After James Shield's first wife died, he went back to Missouri and bought horses from family members there, married Dulcina Nunn and came by wagon with the horse herd back to Anderson Valley
The Shields lands were early Anderson Valley area in Anderson Valley in Philo, Christina =Gschwend lands and Mill was next to them. James Shield's grave is a unmarked grave near their land there.
Her step father Joseph Murdock Hooper is buried in the Winters Cemetery # 31389530
