Elizabeth Broere
Elizabeth Sherry Broere, 86, of 1135 Lakeside Drive, Statesville, died Friday evening, June 25, 2010, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Scranton, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Sherry and Hilda Morris Sherry. Mrs. Broere was a homemaker and a veteran of World War II, having served in the Marine Corps. She was a member of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church. She married John W. Broere, who survives, on Dec. 28, 1946. Also surviving are four sons, John W. Broere III, of Atlanta, Ga., Robert Broere and wife, Doris, of Blacksburg, Va., William Broere and wife, Dyanne, of High Point, and Thomas Broere and wife, Terry, of Unionville, N.Y.; a daughter, K. Sherry Broere, of Mt. Arlington, N.J.; a brother, Joseph Sherry, of Minnesota; a sister, Margaret Sherry, of New Cannan, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild on the way. Services celebrating Mrs. Broere's life will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Father James Byar officiating. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery in Salisbury with full military rites. The family will greet friends just before and just following the service. Memorials may be given to St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 525 Camden Drive, Statesville, NC 28677. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
